It all began when I was 12 years old and started to play for a club called The Soccer Angels in Tema New Town, Ghana. After half a season I moved to another club called Young Kotoko also in Tema. When I was 13 years old there was a school tournament for the all the schools in Ghana. We were led by Coach Desmond Sakyir (which we called him Coachito). We played and won the tournament for which I was chosen best player and given the award Goalking of the Tournament.
In the crowd there was a Belgian scout, Mr Brokien. He watched me play and recognised my talent. He brought me to Ajax that year.
When I was living in Amsterdam, I was living with a host family. The first family was with John and Soraya then I moved to another host family, Rene and Erit. Both families were extremely good to me as I was suffering home sickness, as all my family and friends had stayed in Ghana. I had come to The Netherlands on my own.
I started my career with Ajax playing in their B2 team. Then when I was good enough I was moved to the A1 team which is the highest youth team. When I was 17 years old I started to train with the First team but as there are non-European player regulations I had to wait till I was 18 to actually play with them. I played one league match. It was an away game against N.E.C. At that time I played as a striker.
As I was still so young and there was still more experienced strikers in our team such as Benny McCarthy, Shota Arveladze, Nichos Machlas and Zlatan Ibramimovich I then decided to move on loan to the first Belgium League to play for Germinal Beerschot in Antwerp. I scored a total of 12 goals that season.
Once the season had finished I went back to Ajax. We went to a training camp in England. I was called by my Manager that AIK Solna (also known as AIK Fotboll or AIK Stockholm) in the first Swedish league wanted to hire me. Ajax still had allot of competitors and I decided to move to AIK Solna to have playing time. In total I had 7 goals for AIK. We also played in the UEFA Cup against Fylkir, Iceland, which we beat. I scored the only goal. The next round we played against Valencia and unfortunately we lost. At AIK I also started to play the midfield.
Once that season had finished the Heracles Almelo coach (Peter Bosz) arranged with my manager and Ajax that when the next season (2004-2005) begun I would play for Heracles Almelo in the second Dutch league.
The first year we won the championship to which I scored winning goal in the final match. We had a party to celebrate our win and it was fantastic. Heracles decided to buy me from Ajax and thats when I officially got 'Heraclied'. For the first time in 20 years we played in the first league instead of the second. Every year we had to fight against relegation as we are a small club. As we spent most of our matches in the defensive my role as striker became less. However, against all odds we survived even without relegation play offs!
Recently my position on the pitch has been defensive midfield. As my experience grew so did my playing ability. In Autumn 2008, I made my debut appearance for the National team of Ghana and I was extremely proud!
My first friendly match for Ghana was on October 15th 2008 against South Africa. During the first half of the match I was attacked and I was heavily injured. I had to leave the field to recover. It was a bad start!
One year later I played my second friendly International in England. We played against Zambia. I played the second half and this time I was able to finish the match uninjured. We won the game 4-1.
I would love to play for my country again in the future!
