In 2007, I begun a footballschool in Tema with my ex football coach Desmond Sakyir. The school is located in Tema Com19. Our aim was to try and help children to become professional football players and give them a chance to try and make it in to the industry as professionals. The first team we started was for 18 year olds but we ended up starting teams for children ages 12 years and older.
Desmond is the main coach and he also worked with the trainers to help improve their skills and teaching techniques.
As we all begun working some of the boys had been chosen to have a scholarship with some football clubs. So far 3 boys have already secured a contract to play as a pro in South Africa.
When I visit Ghana again this year I will take football materials to help support the footballschool. Heracles Almelo has donated two sets of official first team away kits.
We are currently working on another project that involves children who have had no education and work on the streets to come and be educated in our school. The first step of this new project is to build the actual school which is currently underway.
It's moving along but there is still allot of work to be done!
While our captain Antoine van der Linden was out supsended I was Heracles Almelo-captain for the first time! To make it even better we beat NAC Breda in our first home match of the season, 2-1.
